2007 Tim Hortons Cyclocross Championships — Elite Men Live Updates

October 21, 2007 (Kamloops, BC) — The Elite Men’s competition at the 2007 Tim Hortons Cyclocross Championships is underway as the men complete 10 laps of the 2.7km circuit. There are 26 starters and while it’s cold and windy the rain has held off.

Lap 1-2
Greg Reain (ON) Ride with Rendall-Colnago-Time is leading followed by Mike Garrigan (ON) Jet Power/Epic in second with Matthew Hewitt (BC) Oak Bay in 3rd and Ryan Hopping (AB) United in 4th.

Lap 3
As the riders start lap 3 it’s Garrigan leading with Reain in second as Max Plaxton (BC) Rocky Mountain-Haywood has moved up into third with Hopping hovering in 4th.

Lap 4
It’s starting to drizzle as Garrigan, Reain and Plaxton come through to begin lap 4. Hopping is trailing by 20 seconds and the rest of the field is another 15-20 seconds behind him.

Lap 5
It’s still Garrigan, Reain and Plaxton now up 50 seconds on Hopping who has been caught by Aaron Schooler (AB) ERTC/Redbike and Osmond Bakker (ON) Stevens Bikes and Rob Britton (BC) Independent.

Lap 6
Reain is back in the lead but Garrigan is right on his wheel. Plaxton has dropped back into 6th as Schooler has moved into third at 50+ seconds from the leaders with Hopping in 4th and Bakker in 5th.

Lap 7
The drizzling has stopped as Garrigan is taking back the lead with Reain now on his wheel. At 1:05 it’s Schooler, Plaxton and Hopping as Bakker has dropped back.

Lap 8
At the start of lap 8 it’s still Garrigan and Reain leading as Plaxton is now alone in third about 1 minute back. Hopping is 4th with Schooler in 5th about 20 sec. behind Plaxton with Bakker in 6th another 20 sec. back. Kris Sneddon (BC) Kona is in 7th and Kevin Noiles (BC) is in 8th.

Lap 9
After this lap it’s one to go as Reian and Garrigan come thru with Reian now leading. Plaxton in 3rd has moved up and is now at 40 sec. with Hopping taking over 4th and it looks like he’ll shed Schooler. Bakker is 15-20 seconds further back in 6th as Noiles and Sneddon trail by another 10 sec. more in 7th and 8th.

Lap 10 Final
Reian is leading Garrigan as they start the bell lap. Plaxton is now at 30 sec. but won’t catch the leaders. Hopping is in 4th but a re-energized Schooler is on his wheel in 5th. Bakker is holding on to 6th as Sneddon has dropped Noiles and is now in 7th.

Garrigan outsprints Reain for the win.
