July 21, 2007 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) — Cuba’s Yumari Gonzalez has won the Pan Am Games women’s 80km road race in a bunch sprint today at Flamingo Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil over Delem Guerrero (Mex) in second and Danieli Garcia (Ven) in 3rd. Canada’s Anne Samplonius finished 8th and Joelle Numainville was 9th. There were 22 starters.

“It was a tough race,” said Numainville, “We tried to get a break going many times but nothing would stick and it came down to a sprint. We did our best but the Cubans and other teams are strong sprinters. This is my first international Games and it’s a great experience for me.”
