2007 Pan American Games – Elite Women’s ITT Flash – Samplonius Wins Canada\’s Second GOLD!

July 15, 2007 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) – Canada’s Ann Samplonius has won Canada’s second gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games winning the women’s ITT race today with a 1:27 margin over her nearest competitor, Mexico’s Alessandra Graffi Herera. Glemilda Silva from Brazil was third. Canada’s Joelle Numainville finished 8th today, and Ontario’s Anne Guzman riding for the Dominican Republic at the Games finished in 11th.

“There was more wind than expected on the course, compared to this morning’s trial. It was actually an advantage for me. But overall it was a difficult race for me, as I had no one ahead that I could catch up to. My strategy was just to go as hard as I could,” said Samplonius after the race.
