May 23, 2001 (Valencia, Venezuela) – Canada’s Martin Gilbert narrowly missed out on a medal yesterday in the men’s scratch event. The sprint saw most of the field together as earlier breakaways had all been reeled in by the finish, including a dangerous break containing Gilbert’s Madison partner Ryan McKenzie. Pedal was able to touch base with CCA High Performance Director, Kris Westwood, to confirm that Cam MacKinnon is ok, just bruised and scraped but otherwise fine, and is fully capable to compete in the upcoming Olympic sprint.
Gina Grain rode the scratch race yesterday in which she places 6th with the sole intent of using it as a warm up for the points race, while Zach Bell skipped the pursuit in order to focus on the points race as well.
