May 22, 2007 (Valencia, Venezuela) — Canada’s Gina Grain finished 6th in the women’s scratch race today at the Pan American Road and Track Championships. Colombia’s Elizabeth Agudelo won the gold medal in the 23-rider strong event.
No Canadian men rode the kilo which was won by Ahmed Lopez of Cuba, while his country woman Lizandra Guerra won the women’s 500m. Cuba had a strong day at the championships winning two gold medals and a bronze.
The CCA’s High Performance Director, Kris Westwood, confirmed this morning that Cam Mackinnon crashed last night with Mexican Luis Toussaint in the gold medal final of the men’s keirin. His condition is unknown at this time, but no mention was made of anything serious. There was a discrepancy as to whether Mackinnon was awarded 5th place in the event (some results list him as “abandon” while yesterday’s US Cycling press release listed him in 5th place). Westwood could not confirm anything as had not seen yesterday’s official results yet.
