July 1, 2007 (Auburn, N.Y.) – The Owasco Velo Club announced today that the Owasco Stage Race will return to Auburn, NY for the fourth consecutive year. The race dates are Saturday and Sunday, July 14th and 15th. Community Computer Service Inc-(MEDENT), with its corporate headquarters located in Auburn, NY is the title sponsor underwriting this year’s two-day bicycle race. CCS is a recognized leader in the healthcare office automation market.
The race continues to grow in popularity with the cycling community. The OSR is known to attract a sizable Canadian contingent giving the weekend an international flavor. “We anticipate that between 300 and 400 licensed racers from throughout the northeast quadrant of the United States and Canada will be in attendance. Our goal this year is to make improvements aimed at polishing the overall presentation of the race. We are grateful for Community Computer’s financial assistance,” said Race Director Dean Furnia.
There are only a few other multi-race events of this kind in the northeast. This year’s race will consist of three stages: a Saturday morning Time Trial Race, a Saturday evening Criterium Race and a Sunday Road Race. Entry fees range from $40.00 to $85.00 US depending on class.
For the first time since 2004 race organizers have added a Cat 5/ Juniors 15-18 class. In the interest of safety, this class will not compete in the Stage 2 Criterium. The cost to enter this race category is reduced to $40.00. Also, new for 2007 is a better road course which is being described as more tactical and less beastly.
Anyone interested competing is urged to make your reservations today, since the Finger Lakes Region is a popular vacation destination. Detailed information about the Owasco Stage Race can be obtained at the event web site www.owascoveloclub.com/OSR2007.htm
