October 9, 2007 – The organization of La Ruta de los Conquistadores has announced that non-local registration for this 2007’s event is closed. “There haven’t been any spots available since two weeks, nevertheless, we held off making this announcement while we worked on the lists, trying to get a few more spaces,” Race Director, Luis VÃquez, indicated.
La Ruta is turning 15 this 2007 so the organization has added one more day to celebrate the occasion. This year’s race will have four stages. The total field for non-local participants was increased this year from 330 to 400 entries, but the race was sold out even before the original closing date.
Currently there is a waiting list with at least 30 people holding out for one space to enter the race. The organization will receive these waiting forms until October 10th. Some participants cancel their entries at the last minute, leaving their spot open for someone else.
“We are talking about 10 spots or so, but that’s why people should register earlier,” said VÃquez.
Competitors from 30 different countries and 45 media representatives are already registered for the 2007 La Ruta de los Conquistadores.
This year’s event will have a new record of 600 entrants. Registration for locals will remain open for one more week. At least 200 Costa Rican racers will enter the event as well.
