July 1, 2007 (Cowichan Lake District, BC) – The first stage of the 2007 BC Bike Race from Victoria to Cowichan Lake District, 108 kms with 1,200m of elevation gain, has been completed and Team Pedal-Specialized’s first daily update has been posted.
Team Pedal-Specialized – Stage 1
Happy Canada day amigos. The yellow school buses rolled out of Victoria at 7:15 am sharp. And like those buses we used to ride to school each day, the “loud and proud” took their seats in the back and made the 37km trek to Sooke extremely entertaining.
The start of the inagural BC Bike had all of the ingredients of a big-time event. With their very cool First Nations logo emblazoned on the start line archway, the Harbour Air Helicopter hovered above, and with the singing of O Canada led by event staff, we felt like we were in for something special.
We rolled out at precisely 9 am complete with police escort for a 5km spin to the outskirts of town and the start of the race. Once unleashed on the gravel road, it was game on!
