April 24, 2006 – The Canadian Adventure Racing Association is pleased to announce that Les Stroud, Outdoor Life Network’s “Survivorman,” will compete in the expedition class of the National Adventure Racing Championships running May 28 – June 3 in Timmins, Ontario.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be part of this race,” says Stroud. “I have been a fan of adventure racing for a long time.”
Stroud and his team (see attached bios) will compete against the top adventure racers from across Canada for the coveted title of “Canada’s adventure racing champions” and a prize purse of over $25,000. This year’s race features some of Canada’s top teams including the winners of world-class qualifying races.
The National Championship is a multi-day adventure race incorporating a range of disciplines such as mountain biking, trekking, paddling, ropes, navigation and other activities to be announced. The schedule of the event is as follows:
“¢ The first stage of the race will start on Sunday, May 28, and will be a one-day, 8-12 hour race covering approximately 85 km.
“¢ The second stage will last approximately 2-3 days.
“¢ The third stage will be a 5-8 hour sprint to the finish line.
