June 16, 2006 – The Formwerks Westside Cycling Classic would NOT be possible without the strong cooperation from the Point Grey Village Merchants, and the surrounding neighbourhood. Take in to some of the great local restaurants and other businesses in the area and get to know West Point Grey a little better and, while you’re at it, thank the business for their support!
Most importantly, please encourage friends and family to come and cheer the riders (and take in the Point Grey Fiesta in Trimble Park), and to hopefully provide a donation to one of the several BC Cancer Foundation volunteers who will be out there that day. Look for them at their booth in the Expo, as well as key locations around the course.
Here are some final important of information to get riders ready for race day.
Pre-Race Package Pickup: Saturday June 17th 2006
This year we will be offering a pre-race package pickup at La Bicicletta (233 West Broadway) from 2-4pm tomorrow (Saturday June 17th 2006). Take this opportunity to come and get the race package, including race numbers, prior to race day. This will save a lot of time on the day of the event. Riders MUST bring your race licence in order to receive numbers. A commissaire will be on site to check ALL licences. One-event licences can be purchased there as well for $30.
Race-Day Sign In / Package Pick-Up:
Riders who can’t make the Pre-Race pickup, then please make sure to sign in and pick up your package well before your start time to avoid line-ups. This year the Registration tent will be located behind the stage at the NEW Start/Finish location of Sasamat and 10th Ave. Once again, one-event licences will be available for purchase if you are an unlicensed rider.
Masters Versus Seniors Categories:
There have been lots of questions about this topic this year and, therefore, it spawned us to add a special FAQ section on our race website page. www.teamwedgewood.com If there are any questions that can’t be answered by this FAQ, regarding what Category to race, please contact Allan Prazsky (road@cycling.bc.ca) at Cycling BC to get clarification.
Amino Vital Feed Zone:
The feed zone this year will be down near Jericho beach on Sasamat between Belmont and 1st Ave on the “Park” side of the road (see map on website for exact location). Please have your feeders keep within this area, and please do your part to keep this area clean after you leave. Also, with respect to garbage, please refrain from tossing wrappers and other garbage on the ground during the race. This will definitely get this race shut down in a hurry if it is found to be a problem.
If you would like to try some of the great, Amino Vital product for the race, please make sure you go by their tent in the Expo across from the Start/Finish line to fill up your bottles or grab a bar.
Finally, the exact laps for feeding will be indicated by the commissaire at the start of each race.
Special Race Prizing:
The Canaccord Capital KOM and Stonefield Development QOM will be featured for the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s races and counted at the top of the 10th Ave climb across the start/finish line. KOM points will be awarded on laps 3-7 for the men, and laps 3-5 for the women. There will be a cash prize of $250 for each of the overall winners of the men/women’s KOM/QOM competition.
There will also be a special First Lap Prime for the Senior Men and the Senior Women of $100 awarded to the first rider to cross the Start/Finish line on the first lap of their respective races.
Finally, be aware that there may be some intermediate “Cash Primes” awarded throughout the race as announced by our race announcer, Dave Cressman!
Results:
All results will be posted after each of the races on a posting board near the stage. Please check this board for additional information about the race as well as start lists.
Award ceremonies will happen as soon as possible after each set of races complete.
Draw Prizes:
Draw Prize winners will be posted on the same posting board as the results, so check there after your race to see if you have won anything! There will be a few, key prizes that will be awarded from the stage following the last races, so stick around to see if you’ve won “the big ones”!
Technical Support:
The Bike Gallery on 10th Ave will be opening at 7am on Sunday. They are located just down from the Start line at 4433 West 10th Ave.
Wheel Vehicles and Spare Wheels:
There will be wheel vehicles for every race, however, due to a last minute cancellation of our extra motorcycle crew, we are currently unable to offer wheel vehicles to any “breaks” that occur in the race. If this changes, we will let you know prior to the race.
We will, through the generous contributions of La Bicicletta, the Bike Gallery, and Mighty Riders, a “Semi-Neutral Support” this year. We have a few Campy and a few DuraAce wheelsets that will be carried in each of the wheel vehicles, and they will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to add your own wheels to the wheel vehicle, please label them well and bring them to the Start/Finish at least 15 minutes prior to your race.
