September 28, 2006 – For the first time since the reform of the cyclo-cross, the 2006-2007 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup starts outside Belgium. Switzerland and the city of Aigle have this honour on Sunday the 1st of October.
This novelty has been well received and has resulted in a record participation in the first round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. With a total of 66 starters registered this year, the records of 59 participants in Wortegem-Petegem in 2004 and 55 in Kalmthout in 2005 have been easily broken.
Aigle and its course marked around the World Cycling Centre welcomes for the second time a round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Reserved for the Men Elite riders, this competition is the first of a series of 11 rounds organized in 7 different countries (Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Switzerland).
The results of the World Cup in Aigle will be available online from Sunday onwards and the first UCI Cyclo-cross Ranking of the season as of Monday on www.uci.ch.
