September 3, 2005 — Canada’s Micayla Gatto (CAN) won a bronze medal in the junior women’s downhill World Championships in Livigno, Italy today.
Great Britain’s Rachel Atherton (GBR) zoomed down the 2850-metre downhill course and came out at the end with a rainbow jersey.
Kiwi Scarlett Hagen (NZL) put up a battle. She won the seeding run with a smoking time of 4:31.42, but couldn’t repeat in the final. She trailed Atherton’s winning time of 4:39.67 by just over nine seconds.
Atherton’s time would have put her in the top 10 among the elite women.
