May 6, 2004 – The CCA is pleased to announce that it has received confirmation of places for the upcoming 2004 Olympic Games for road cycling. In view of UCI rankings by nations and individuals established on April 30, 2004 and according to UCI rules, the UCI has confirmed Canada's presence for the road events.

The CCA is happy to announce that it will send of a minimum of 3 men
athletes and 3 women athletes for the following Olympic events:

– Men's Elite Road Race – August 14th, 2004: three places

– Women's Elite Road Race – August 15th, 2004: three places

– Women's Elite Time Trial – August 18th, 2004: two places
(Only the athletes who take part in the road race can take part in the
individual Time Trial)

Back in January of this year, five spots (three women, two men) were
allocated to Canada for the MTB discipline. Canada was amongst the top
nations in the MTB discipline as only Germany was allocated more riders than
Canada with six.

With 18 gold medals awarded in three disciplines (four for road, twelve for
track and two for mountain bike), cycling will once again be among the major
sports in the Olympic Games in Athens from August 13-29.

The Canadian Cycling Association, the governing body for cycling, is
Canada's oldest sport governing body.  Its mission is to lead and support
the development and growth of cycling in Canada through programs, leadership
development and technical expertise.
