July 18, 2004 – Last night’s Lehigh Cement Criterium proved to be a fast event on a wide open course with fast corners. Both women’s and men’s races came down to a bunch sprint.
On the women’s side Sarah Uhl from the Quark Cycling Team proved to be the fastest of the fast blazing to victory after close to an hour of ill-fated breakaway attempts. She was closely followed by Helen Kelly of Rona and Leah Goldstein or Trek-VW.
The men’s race averaged close to 50kph with speeds exceeding 60kph on the back straight. Young prodigy Tyler Farrar of Team Healthnet took the $1,200 crowd prime with two laps go and then rejoined the field to help teammate Canadian Superstar “Flash” Gordon Fraser take the win. Second place went to Ivan Dominguez of Colavita Bola and Ben Brooks of Jelly Belly rounded out the top three.
