October 29, 2008 (San José, Costa Rica) – Registration for the 2008’s La Ruta de los Conquistadores was officially closed on Wednesday, October 29, as it has been informed by the Customer Services Chief, Erick Esquivel.
“Now we have the final start list. More than 400 people is registered for the event so I think we will have a nice 16th edition of La Ruta, plenty of emotions and hard competition,” Esquivel said.
The total field of participants for this year’s race is 430, including racers, companions, local and international media representatives – 384 riders from 30 different countries will compose the competitors’ group. There will be 143 local racers and 261 foreigners. The split men/women remains in the usual average of 85%-15%.
The Master A category (30-39 years) is the most popular with 130 registered riders, while the Open Men (Elite) will feature around 90 competitors.Course marking were also finished this week. Checkpoints Coordinator, Hugo Alvarado, along with course leader and race founder, Roman Urbina, completed the 386km in seven days.
“The course is ready and waiting for the Conquistadors. Although it has been a really rainy season the muddy sections seams to be in pretty good shape. However, that’s something about La Ruta”¦ You never know!. It might change from day to another,” Alvarado affirmed.
