13th Annual BC Bike Race – 22 Days Until #BCBR2019

release by BCBR

June 14, 2019 (Vancouver, B.C.) – As mountain bikers, we have a tendency to get caught up in our superstitions. Sometimes it’s lucky socks, a lucky pair of shorts or a lucky number that we rely on to get us over a hurdle. 2019 is our 13th BC Bike Race and we’re embracing the opportunity to celebrate our Lucky 13th year. The racers participating this year will have the Lucky 13th logo on their bibs and will be able to purchase Lucky 13th gear online and during race week to commemorate their race week experience. Shop ‘Lucky 13’ Now here.

Spring Events
Grinding it out in a race is one of the best ways to prep your legs for BCBR. There are plenty of options (and thus, no excuses) to fill your calendar.

Congratulations to all of the racers, and of course the organizers, for the final edition of the Nimby 50. After 10 years of epic marathon xc-racing exploring the gruelling technical trails in Pemberton we are sad to see it go.

On a particularly wet day in May, the top racers from high schools around BC gathered in Squamish for the BC High School Mountain Bike Championships. If these kids are the future of mountain biking we have a lot to look forward to in the next few years! Big thanks to the Squamish community for putting on another stellar event.

On May 4th, the Sunshine Coast hosted the Coaster 50, an awesome event and great pre-race prep for a successful 2019 bike season. The Coaster 50 also takes place on some of the very same trails as BC Bike Race does, in West Sechelt. This long standing event has seen a similar change over the years to the evolution of BCBR, moving towards a heavy singletrack focus. The race organizers are both long standing course directors for BCBR (Sue Duxbury and Warren Hansen) and are assisted by a former professional racer and former BCBR winner Kris Sneddon.

Gear up for another weekend in Squamish, June 15 & 16, with the Sp’akw’us 50, the Sp’akw’us 35km and the Sp’akw’us Challenge, a combination of the two events to create a 2-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race.
