Ziliute Wins Final Stage in Montreal

June 4, 2003 (Montreal, Quebec) – The Tour de Grand Montreal wrapped up today in Terrbonne, Quebec. Newly crowned National Road Champion, T-Mobile's Amber Neben gave T-Mobile their first major international win by bringing home the Yellow Leader's jersey by three seconds over Lyne Bessette (Saturn). Today's stage winner, Diana Ziliute (Acca Due O Pasta) was victorious on the final 80 kilometer stage, an 8-lap circuit race in this small town east of Montreal. Ziliute's win garnered her the overall title for the Sprinter's Competition.

In an effort to overcome Neben, Bessette's Saturn team attacked repeatedly in the early part of the stage, but was not able to dislodge either T Mobile or Genèvieve Jeanson (Rona-Esker). Jeanson, who lost the jersey yesterday, raced not to overcome the 38 deficit from yesterday's race, but rather concentrated on maintaining her lead in the Climber's Competition.

Bessette was realistic about her race today saying, “I tried to get the bonus sprints in the stage, but there were other teams trying for the stage win, so it was not possible. The hill was not enough to break it up.”

The Saturn, T-Mobile and Rona teams all head to Philadelphia tomorrow in preparation for Sunday's Wachovia Liberty Classic held conjunction with the men's Wachovia US PRO Championships. The action kicks off in downtown Philadelphia on Logan Circle at 9 AM (EST) on Sunday.
