World Triathlon Corporation Announces 5150 Muskoka

December 16, 2011 (Tampa, FL) – World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) today announced a new race in its 2012 global event lineup, 5150 Muskoka. Scheduled for July 22, 2012 in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada, 5150 Muskoka will showcase the area’s picturesque and challenging terrain. The Town of Huntsville is located in the District of Muskoka about two hours north of Toronto. Huntsville has been hosting triathlons (including national and world championships) for over 20 years; many of the icons of the sport have come to test their mettle on its challenging but picturesque courses.

The event will be hosted at the beautiful Summit Centre in Huntsville. The event weekend will host a 5150 triathlon, duathlon as well as sprint distance events for all athletes. The swim will start at Camp Kitchen Beachfront, swimming through the channel exiting close to transition. This challenging bike course will be an out and back touring through the picturesque Muskoka region through the town of Port Sydney. The run course will consist of a challenging route that runs around the Summit Centre site that includes new roads, trails, and running tracks finishing right at the Summit Centre. The 5150 Series is an International-distance triathlon series consisting of a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and a 10K run. 5150 Muskoka will offer qualifying opportunities for both professional and age group athletes for the 2012 Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship. Professional athletes will compete for a $15,000 prize purse and qualifying points for the 2012 Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship. The top five athletes in each of the age group categories will also win a free entry into the U.S. Championship and the top 15 will qualify. The Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship offers the highest prize purse in the sport with athletes competing for a professional prize of more than $1-million and over $120,000 in age group awards.
