February 13, 2006 (Whistler, B.C.) – Summer Gravity Camps (SGC) at Whistler Blackcomb will introduce a new 10,000 square foot, covered mountain bike facility this summer. The Air Dome features a foam pit, resi ramp and trampoline. Located at Base II on Blackcomb Mountain, and scheduled to open this summer, the Air Dome is the first mountain bike training facility of its kind in Canada.
“Having a facility like the Air Dome is amazing,” says Andrew Shandro, Director of Summer Gravity Camps. “Having SGC camper access to the Air Dome makes Whistler Blackcomb the ultimate training facility for our camp. The progression we have seen out of our campers over the last few years is phenomenal.”
Access to venues like the Air Dome boost progression in the sport of mountain biking. The supervised, indoor facility provides the ultimate learning experience for riders. Easily accessed by the Magic Chair at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, SGC is the only specialized freeride mountain bike camp in Canada to provide their students with a facility like the Air Dome.
“This facility will give our campers the ability to practice progressive tricks in a controlled environment,” continues Shandro. “Our goal is to have the best freeride mountain bike camp in the world.”
Features such as the foam pit, resi ramp and trampoline will be used for learning tricks such as barrel rolls, 360’s and tail whips. Basic air awareness and less technical moves can also be learned in the Air Dome.
Founded in 2002, Summer Gravity Camps is a six-day, seven-night freeride mountain bike camp for people aged 11 to adult, located in Whistler, BC. Under the direction of Freeride Pioneer and X Games Gold Medalist, Andrew Shandro, camps include expert coaching in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park — the world’s leading lift accessed mountain bike park.
