McQuaid 9th at the 2002 Nissan Xterra World Championship!

BC's Melanie McQuaid finished 9th after competing yesterday in the 2002 Nissan Xterra World Championship in Wailea, Maui Hawaii. The .93mile swim, 18-mile bike, and 6.8 mile trail run was won by American Candy Angle with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes. Second and third went to Jamie Whitmore and Shari Kain with times of 2:59:10 and 3:03:20 respectively.

McQuaid, a former National Team cyclist, was 2nd last year at the Xterra Championships. She was on the short list for another podium finish this year after a win in July at one of the series events and several top five finishes this season. She finished yesterday's race with a time of 3:11:01.

Federau wins BC Cyclocross Champs!
BC had its only Cyclocross race this season and it just happened to be the “La Bicicletta-ING Direct” provincials this weekend! Twenty-five men and three women competed for glory on the somewhat cloudy yet dry Saturday afternoon.

The event was held in the middle of downtown Vancouver, right on the beach in Vanier Park. Numerous spectators were out for this fall event and co-organizers David Cressman (Team Soliton) and Kreb's Cycle Clubís Derek Sakamoto were pleased with the turnout.

Some Americans came out to challenge the locals however it was Gears Racing's Ricky Federau who crossed the line for gold. The closest challenger, Norco's Andrew Kyle, was reportedly delayed by a slight mechanical problem with his rear derailleur. Kona's Dale Plant finished in third.

Kelly Wilcox (Team Soliton) led the women's race but was automatically kicked out of the race when she flatted and had no spare. Marg Feydana (Trek Alberta) also contested the win but DNF'd after a mechanical. The wome's race was won by Kelly Jones (SUGOI).

City TV, CTV, and the weather channel showed up to air clips of the race.
