April 8, 2009 (Cumberland, BC) – The Vancouver Island Cup MTB Series is well underway, with the fourth event and XC #2 taking place last Sunday in Cumberland, B.C. The course was put on by the United Riders of Cumberland club and featured some of the town’s best singletrack. Mike Vine won the Expert Men’s category in a time of 1:35:36. Dan Sessford (Blue) and Craig Ritchey finished second and third, respectively. In the Expert Women’s race, young rising star Bianca Adolf (Local Ride Women’s MTB) who took her first victory of the year and of her U23 career. She beat out second- and third-place Lisa Ludwig and Annie Gornall for the top spot. Veteran elite racer Wendy Simms (Kona) chose to duke it out with the Expert Men, where she placed a very respectable 21st of 24 riders.
