USA’s Mirabella Awarded Olympic Bronze

August 29, 2004 (Athens, Greece) – Erin Mirabella (Racine, Wis.) was awarded the Olympic bronze medal today for her efforts in the women’s 25km points race on August 25 after third place finisher, Maria Luisa Calle Williams (COL), failed an IOC anti-doping test.

Mirabella, originally placed fourth and according to an International Olympic Committee statement <http://www.olympic.org/uk/news/media_centre/press_release_uk.asp?release=1063> this morning will benefit from the immediate disqualification of Williams by the IOC.

Mirabella’s bronze brings the medal count for American cyclists to four along with Tyler Hamilton’s gold, Dede Barry’s silver and Bobby Julich’s bronze in last week’s time trial.
