USA\’s Chris Horner to Ride in Tour de France

June 23, 2005 (Sun Valley, ID) – Scott USA announced today that American Chris Horner will ride the Tour de France for Scott on its Saunier-Duval / Prodir Pro Tour team.

Horner, one of the most dominant domestic riders, has been waiting for this opportunity as long as he can remember. Horner signed with the Saunier-Duval / Prodir team because of the opportunity it presented him to ride all of the Classics. He was originally on the Tour roster, but a fractured femur incurred at the Tirreno-Adriatico found him injured and seemingly off the Tour Squad. The team directors gave him an opportunity though – a strong performance at the US Pro Championships in Philadelphia and another good ride at the Tour de Suisse and he could find himself back in the Tour de France.

Horner pulled it off, even winning stage six at the Tour de Suisse and placing fifth overall. “I’ve always wanted to be a part of the Tour de France at least one time in my career. This really is a dream come true. I’m 100 percent motivated to be there with the best form I could possibly have and I’d like to win something.” remarked Chris. Regarding the stage win at the Tour de Suisse, he added “I could not end my career without winning something in Europe. This is truly an amazing week.”
