Updated Athlete Biological Passport Operating Guidelines and Information Available to Stakeholders

release by WADA

December 12, 2013 – wada-e1348846520963During the November World Conference on Doping in Sport in Johannesburg, WADA announced the launch of a Steroidal Module for the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP). This new Module goes into effect on January 1, 2014.

The Steroidal Module follows the same fundamental processes as the ABP Haematological Module introduced in 2009. It provides a standardized and largely automatized approach to the detection of steroid abuse by longitudinal profiling and application of an adaptive model within WADA’s Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS).

The new module aims to identify athletes for further target testing, a more intelligent application of IRMS confirmation and assist in the direct prosecution of anti-doping rule violations.

The Steroidal Module has been incorporated into the updated ABP Operating Guidelines and related Technical Documents that are available on WADA’s Web site. Together these documents provide guidance to ADOs in the operations and management of the new module.

The updated ABP Operating Guidelines, as well as frequently asked questions about the ABP and the Steroidal Module, are available on WADA’s Web site.
