UCI Track World Cup Manchester Day 1 Report, Photos, Full Results – UPDATED

February 18, 2011 (Manchester, GBR) – The fourth and last UCI Track Cycling kicked off today in Manchester, GBR, and a reduced Canadian track team based on development and acquiring experience took the to the track on opening day. Travis Smith of Calgary, Alberta, placed 19th in the men’s sprint race by stopping the clock at 10.424 seconds. His teammate Joseph Veloce of Fonthill, Ontario, placed 22nd.

In the Men’s omnium, Remi Pelletier-Roy of Longueuil, Québec finished 16th of his qualifying heat, and did not advance to finals.

Tomorrow, in the women’s omnium, Allison Beveridge of Calgary will make her World Cup debut, while Monique Sullivan, also of Calgary, will be looking to continue on the great season she is having so far in the women sprint race.

Amongst the notable absentee from Canada, omnium star Zach Bell, who has been on the podium in every omnium race on the UCI Track World Cup Tour since its inception this season, is not attending this event as he is focusing on training for World Championships. Tara Whitten, the World champion in the discipline, also chose to stay in California to train. Both Bell and Whitten are the current World Cup leaders in the discipline.
