August 29, 2014 (Montreal, QC) – Canada’s squad comprised of Quebec’s Robert Labbé and Mark Beggs, along with Ontario’s Mark Ledo, placed seventh in the team relay on Thursday night at the World Para-Cycling Championships in Greenville, South Carolina.

Recording a total time of 38 minutes and 24 seconds on the 22.5 kilometer race consisting nine laps of a 2.5km circuit, the Canadians trailed the winning Italian team by four minutes and 11 seconds. Teams USA and Switzerland completed the podium in second and third, respectively.

“It is absolutely certain that we always want to do better,” said Labbé. “Our goal was perhaps fifth or sixth, but seventh is still good. We needed more speed, more consistency.”

“The relay is not our event, we do not expect medals. However, since we are in the top ten, it pays us points for the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.”

Pierre-Olivier Boily, Alexandre Cloutier, Mathieu Croteau-Daigle, Daniel Chalifour Lyne Bessette, Nicole etMarie Clermont-Claude Molnar will compete in the men’s and women’s time trials on Friday.

The competition continues until Monday, including time trial on Saturday and road race, Sunday and Monday.
