UCI News Division 1 Team Update

January 10, 2003 -On the basis of the applications received by UCI up toDecember 20, the Professional Cycling Council (PCC) has registered thefollowing TT/I for the 2003 season:Fassa Bortolo (ITA)US Postal Service presented by Berry Floor (USA)Lotto-Domo (BEL)Cofidis, Le Crédit par Téléphone (FRA)ONCE-Eroski (ESP)iBanesto.com (ESP)Rabobank (NED)CSC (DEN)Gerolsteiner (GER)Telekom (GER)Kelme-Costa Blanca (ESP)Alessio (ITA)Sidermec (ITA)Saeco-Longoni-Sport (ITA)Lampre (ITA)Phonak Hearing Systems (SUI)FDJeux.com (FRA)Milaneza-MSS (POR)Jean Delatour (FRA)Euskaltel-Euskadi (ESP)Crédit Agricole (FRA)AG2R Prévoyance (FRA)Brioches La Boulangère (FRA)Quick Step-Davitamon (BEL)Since some teams submitted their applications at a very late stage (betweenDecember 18 and 20, i.e. within the period specified by the regulations buttoo late for all the necessary checks to be carried out), the PCC hasdecided not to register these TTs for the time being.Once it has assessed these applications fully, the PCC will take a finaldecision on 10.01.2003.The TTs concerned are:Team Coast (GER)Domina Vacanze-Elitron (ITA)Index-Alexia (ITA)BigMat.Auber93 (FRA)Fakta (DEN)The PCC wishes to emphasize that the application of this procedure will notresult in teams being given any additional time to complete theirapplication file.As with all the other teams, the only elements in the application whichwill be taken into account are those received by December 20.Based on the PCC’s decisions, it will then be possible to define the statusof the following TTs, which are candidates for the status of TT/I:Palmans-Collstrop (BEL)Landbouwkrediet-Colnago (BEL)CCC-Polsat (POL)De Nardi-Colpack (ITA)Marlux-Ville de Charleroi (BEL)On the basis of the above, the list of top clubs is as follows:Fassa Bortolo (ITA)US Postal Service presented by Berry Floor (USA)Lotto-Domo (BEL)Cofidis, Le Crédit par Téléphone (FRA)ONCE-Eroski (ESP)iBanesto.com (ESP)Rabobank (NED)CSC (DEN)Gerolsteiner (GER)The identity of the 10th team will be known following the decision to betaken on 10.01.2003 by the PCC.To conclude, the UCI is pleased to note that the leading edge ofprofessional cycling is showing remarkable vitality, as is indicated bythe 34 applications submitted for the 30 places available in the TT/Icategory.However, only the great rigour with which the PCC has assessed eachapplication, on the basis of UCI’s regulations, can ensure the financialhealth which is essential to it, and consequently its future stability.
