UCI MTB 2007 World Championships — Elite Men & Women DH Report, Full Results and Photos

September 9, 2007 – Sam Hill of Australia and Sabrina Jonnier of France both repeated as downhill world champions today in Scotland as 10,000 screaming fans braved horrendous weather at times to watch the Iron Horse teammates once again take home the gold.

Jonnier came down late and moved into the hot seat for the last few riders. Rachel Atherton and Tracey Hannah couldn’t match the effort that Jonnier put in to cross the finish line in a time of 5:28.35. Atherton ended up 1.33 seconds back.

“I went pretty good today. I made a few mistakes as it was a really long course, and you can’t go perfect. It is impossible. I broke my derailleur, i could still shift but it shifted into the wheel or something. I gave everything I had in my legs today.”

Hill was seeded back in the pack and had a long stay in the hot seat as 20+ riders failed to match the Aussie’s time of 4:52.01. The rains came about halfway through the men’s field, making the course slick and hard to hold a line on. Fastest seed Greg Minnaar was well back at the split, and only ex-World Champion Fabien Barel could challenge Hill’s time on the day, ending up .24 seconds back.

Top Canadians were Claire Buchar for the women in 15th and Steve Chan in 41st for the men.
