UCI Considers Moving Location of Annual Congress

September 20, 2005 – After receiving a hostile reception from the Spanish Cycling Federation, the UCI Management Committee is considering to transfer their Annual Congress from Madrid to Geneva, Switzerland.

The outrageous behaviour of the Spanish Cycling Federation is incomprehensible as it is the host country for the 2005 Road World Championships taking place this week from September 21-25, in Madrid, Spain.

It seems apparent that the Spanish Cycling Federation is attempting to create disruptions in the UCI before its Annual Congress. Apart from one member, the UCI Management Committee unanimously expressed full solidarity for UCI President, Hein Verbruggen. The UCI also considers this to be a regrettable situation for which the Spanish Cycling Federation should take full responsibility as soon as possible.
