U of T Athletic Award for MTB Rider

April 8, 2006 – Thorsten Klaus (UofT Mountain Bike Team) wins 2006 George M. Biggs Trophy at University of Toronto’s Athletic Banquet

From out of 500 varsity athletes, Thorsten Klaus was selected to recieve award given to a male student athlete who has contributed most to university athletics from the standpoint of leadership, sportsmanship and performance.

Varsity Blues men’s mountain biking MVP Thorsten Klaus is a phenomenal student-athlete. Consistantly placing in the Top Ten throughout the University Cup race season, Thorsten has maintained a straight A average since entering university as a UofT National Scholar; the university’s top entrance award. Thorsten is always available to provide assistance to others, whether it’s stepping in as a guest lecturer to engineering students or as a group trining leader for rookies to the the Mountain Bike Team, he can be relied on for support and enthusiasm. Thorsten also puts his talents to use as a bike mechanic for fellow team members and as a musician in several Hart House groups.

Thorsten will begin his PhD studies in Germany starting in September.

He now joins Walt Bayless (2001) in the record books as members of the UofT mountain bike team who have won this prestigious award.
