release by Tripleshot Cycling

September 30, 2016 (Victoria, BC) – Tripleshot Cross Fondo is Victoria’s first mass participation off-road cycling event. Tripleshot Cycling, one of BC’s largest all-age cycling clubs, invites cyclists of all ages and abilities to explore backcountry trails in the Greater Victoria region on Sunday October 16, 2016 while supporting youth cycling and the development of south Vancouver Island trail systems.

The course, appropriate for cyclocross or mountain bike riders, starts and finishes at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort and winds through the Highlands, Hartland Mountain Bike Park, Camosun College, Francis King & Thetis Lake Regional Parks and some private property that owners are opening up for the day. Starting at 9 a.m., riders will enjoy flowy pine-needle trails and hairpin turns, single track hills, roots and rocks, mud puddles and gravel roads. Oh, and maybe a few hike-a-bike sections to keep it legit.

“This inaugural event, the first of its kind in western Canada, offers something for everyone – from roadies, to cross-riders, to mountain bikers.  Yeah, yeah, yeah…your beautiful bike will get really dirty but you’re guaranteed to end up with a stupid big grin on your face at the end,” said Tripleshot Cycling Club President John Dower. “And hey, since the profits go to support youth riders and trail development you even get the satisfaction of knowing that while you’re out having fun you’re also helping to grow the local Victoria cycling community.”

Riders have two options: Doubleshot (short course approx 20km) and the Tripleshot (long course approx 40km) at $95/$75 respectively. Seven aid stations provided by local bike shops and youth team members will support riders and their bikes offering mechanical, psychological and nutrition support. And for riders’ support teams, a.k.a. family and friends, the Westin Bear Mountain Resort has both outdoor and indoor attractions to keep them occupied while they wait for the riders to return.

The Tripleshot Cross Fondo is a fund raiser for the 30+ member Youth Team and will support quality year-round coaching for the riders – age 10-17 – who love to train hard and compete in cyclocross, road, track and mountain bike races at the local, provincial, national and international level (they bring back lots of hardware and Canadian Records too!). A portion of the funds raised will also go to support the South Vancouver Island Nature Trails Society and its mission of connecting trail systems.
