TransRockies Challenge Comes to a Close as Singletrack 6 Launches a New Era in Mountain Biking

release by the TransRockies Challenge

June 27, 2013 (Canmore, AB) – TransRockies Events today announced that 2013 marks the final running of the world-famous TransRockies Challenge after twelve hugely successful years. Since launching in 2002, over 4,000 participants have taken part in this epic mountain bike stage race through the Canadian Rockies covering more than 6,037 kilometres of accumulated routing.

However, the end of an era for the TransRockies Challenge also marks a new dawn in the world of mountain bike stage racing with the launch of:

Singletrack 6: Ride the West.

Coming July 26th to July 31st, 2014, Singletrack 6 will carry on the legacy and the high standards set by the TransRockies Challenge but will add a new, fun and exciting format that will lead the sport of mountain biking in a whole new direction.

Let us explain.

Mountain biking has changed the face of many Western Canadian communities over the past twenty years. It has generated a new source of sustainable tourism and economic development for the area and has given the world some of the very best riding available anywhere on the planet.

At the heart of this is the large-scale development of singletrack trails in and around local communities. These trails have, in the main, been built by riders for riders with the help of volunteer labour and donated materials.

Singletrack 6 was created to celebrate, promote and support the efforts of those building these world-class trails and the sport of mountain biking as a whole.

So what is Singletrack 6 exactly?

Simple. It is a mountain bike stage race unlike any other.

Born from the desire to showcase premiere Western Canadian mountain bike communities, Singletrack 6 features a rider-built and maintained route that changes annually. Riders will be treated to the very best trails in Alberta and British Columbia, including first year stops in Kananaskis, Nipika, Radium, Golden (x2) and Revelstoke. Stages will be a combination of traditional cross-country stages, as well as enduro and time-trial stages to best suit each location.

Riders will experience an exceptionally varied six consecutive days of mountain biking as they navigate singletrack that climbs to the high alpine, flows across arid desert-like landscapes and finally descends through lush rain forest.

Singletrack 6 is simply the perfect brew of cross-county riding, breathtaking climbs, panoramic vistas and enduro descents. There is truly something for everyone.

Family and supporters will also be able to enjoy the festival atmosphere in each of the host communities with plenty to see and do for bikers and non-bikers alike of all ages in some of the most scenic, friendly and welcoming areas of Canada.

Dates for the inaugural Singletrack 6 are set for July26th – July 31st, 2014 with online registration scheduled to open August 3rd, 2013.  Event and registration information for Singletrack 6 can be found here.

TransRockies Events will also continue to offer a stand-alone 3-day stage race in Fernie, BC starting in 2014, currently offered as part of the TransRockiesChallenge (TR3).

Finally, fancy one last go at the TransRockies Challenge? It’s not too late.

After twelve successful years of hosting the TransRockies Challenge, the event will see its final running this summer.  Space is still available for those looking to return one more time or who would like to join the thousands of riders who have already checked this event off their riding bucket list.  Registration for the TransRockiesChallenge can be found at www.transrockies.com/trc.
