Tragic News at UCI MTB World Cup in Meribel, France

August 23, 2014 (Méribel, France) – Annefleur Kalvenhaar (Focus XC Team) from The Netherlands died from injuries she sustained from a crash during the Elite Women’s Eliminator qualifications on Aug. 22 at the final round of the UCI MTB World Cup in Méribel, France. Kalvenhaar, 20, the U23 European cyclocross champion, was flow by helicopter to a hospital in Grenoble but did not survive. “I’m devastated that cycling has lost one of its members at such a young age,” said UCI president Brian Cookson in statement. “Our deepest thoughts are with her family and friends.” – read more here and here.
