release by the Town of Milton

May 25, 2015 (Milton, ON) – With the Games less than two months away, the Town of Milton is announcing a variety of community activities and events designed to get residents and visitors into the Pan Am spirit.

Known as Milton Yarn BombMilton Ramps it Up!, the program includes hands on activities, entertainment and spectator opportunities that will bring the community together for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the passion of the Games.

Town of Milton facilities, including the Milton Sports Centre and the Milton Centre for the Arts will be transformed into festival spaces, showcasing the diverse cultures and athletic excellence of Milton, Ontario, Canada and the Americas through music, art, sport and more with activities and events for all ages. Programming is free to the public and will run throughout the period of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games (July 10 to 26 and August 7 to 15, respectively).

“I encourage all Miltonians to ramp it up by taking part in the community events being offered throughout the Games,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “These activities are an opportunity for Milton to show its Pan Am pride and I hope you will all join in on the celebrations.”

Milton Ramps It Up! will be spread across the following programs:

Let’s Yarn Bomb Milton (Beginning June 1)
Residents can “yarn bomb” a bicycle to show their enthusiasm for the track and road cycling events happening in Milton. Fun, colourful, crafty displays of knit or crochet covered bikes will be on temporary display throughout Milton before, during and following the Games for all to enjoy.

The Hub Viewing Station (July 10 to 26 and August 7 to 15)
During the Games, the Milton Centre for the Arts will be transformed into The Hub Viewing Station. The Games will be broadcast live on the big screen and special screenings and activities will be offered during medal event races. Additionally, the site will play host to an Opening Ceremonies Community Celebration on July 10, featuring professional circus acts such as Mighty Mike, the Strongman Juggler.

Velo City (July 16 to 19 and August 10 to 11)
On track cycling event days, the Milton Sports Centre will be transformed into Velo City — a festival atmosphere — celebrating the Games and Pan American culture. Replete with food, entertainment, live music and tourism information, Velo City will also operate as the central Park and Ride location for ticket holders travelling to the Cisco Milton Pan Am/Parapan Am Velodrome.

Fan Stands, Milton Time Trials (July 22 and Aug 13)
Fan Stands — “the best seats in the house” — will be located at Bristol District Park. Community members and visitors will have the opportunity to watch the top cyclists from 41 countries and territories race the clock during the time trial competitions. Entertainers will be on site to help to energize the crowd. This event is free for everyone to attend.

Milton Ramps It Up! has been financially assisted by the Community Celebrations Fund, a program of the Government of Canada .
