Tour of Spain 2005 – Stage 5

August 31, 2005 – Stage 5 saw Credit Agricole’s Norwegian sprinter Thor Hushovd take the win. FDJ’s Brad McGee still wears the Golden leader’s jersey. Canada’s Michael Barry was part of an eight-man breakaway that got caught on the final climb – and since he was the highest-placed rider in the move, he was actually leading the Tour of Spain – the virtual Golden Jersey – until they got caught. Barry then cruised in to this finish. Although Barry was disappointed with being caught, he was philosophical. As the Great One [Wayne Gretzky] said, “you miss 100% of the shots you never take.” And today, Barry took a shot.

“It wasn’t too hot out there which was nice,” Barry continued. “I gave it a go but they didn’t let us get more than 4 mins as I was close to the lead. I will try again another day.”
