Tour of Croatia Stage 1 Results, Photos – Canada’s Boivin Makes Bold Attack

April 19, 2016 (Varaždin, Croatia) – A bold attack by Canada’s Guillaume Boivin (Cycling Academy) came up short on Stage 1 from Osijek to Varaždin, 235.1km, at the Tour of Croatia. Boivin escaped early on with teammate Guy Sagiv along with Alexey Kurbatov (Rus) Gazprom-Rusvelo and Matej Drinovec (Slo) Adria Mobil, gaining a 10-min. lead over the pack.

The reigning Canadian road champ attacked with 40km to go take the only KOM points of the day but was caught with 3km to go as Giacomo Nizzolo (Ita) Trek-Segafredo took the win over Mark Cavendish (Gbr) Dimension Data in the bunch sprint to the line. Boivin finished 158th with the KOM jersey in hand.
