Tour of Chongming Island Women’s World Tour #7 Stage 1 Report, Results – Kirchmann 2nd

May 06, 2016 (Chongming Island) – The opening day of the Women’s World Tour #7 race covered 139.8km on multiple laps of a circuit course on the island of Chongming. Stage one was marked by a two-rider breakaway, with Olga Zabelinskaya (BePink) and Anna Trevisi (Ale Cipollini) staying away much of the way.

The two leaders were caught again with only 14.5km to go, with Liv-Plantur leading the chase. Multiple attacks followed, but the team controlled the field and did not let anyone get away.

Liv-Plantur was at the head of the onrushing field as the bunch sprint approached. Leah Kirchmann went for the win but was passed at the last second by Tingyang Huang of the Chinese Taipei team, who took the win.he two leaders were caught again with only 14.5km to go, with Liv-Plantur leading the chase. Reactions

After the race, Leah Kirchmann said, “The team rode a great race today and set up a perfect lead out for the finish. I was disappointed that I couldn’t pay back their efforts with the win, but the podium finish leaves me motivated and looking ahead to the next two days of racing.”

Coach Dirk Reuling was happy with the team today. “We had really good teamwork the whole day. Rozanne and Kyara controlled the race to keep it all together for the bonification sprints and the finish. The team also did a great lead-out in the in the finale for Leah!”

In the boni sprint Leah got two seconds and then another 6 seconds at the finish. She is now second on GC, two seconds behind the leader, who was today’s stage winner.”
