release by the Tour de Nuit Society

August 24, 2016 (Calgary, AB) – August 28th marks the date for the Tour of Alberta Ride the Road tour -the longest mass participation cycling event west of Montreal. Calgary families are challenged to swap their sofa for fresh air and on-street fun on our favourite roads that we love to drive on the most. This is the community ride of the Tour of Alberta, Canada’s first professional stage race. There is no training required for the Ride the Road tour because we have four rides suited to the abilities of every Calgarian. Spandex is not required attire and everyone is welcome.

The four rides take are an urban adventure on Calgary roads. Participants will be thrilled with the view from a bike saddle and ambience of a bike ride with a police escort. Quite literally cyclists will be getting the treatment reserved for Prime Ministers, Queen and Presidents.

The main hub ride is the family bike ride lasting about 45 minutes that starts in beautiful Stanley Park, loops downtown and returns to the park. The family ride is preceded by two feeder rides for more experienced cyclists, the North Spoke (Tuxedo Source for Sports) and South Spoke Shawnessy YMCA).

The ride on August 28th is the ultimate Sunday ‘drive’. Cyclists will be accompanied by new provincial MLAs shifting their way towards a carbon-free future. The after party will be at Stanley Park where you will enjoy live music, ice cream, and socializing with your support team and riders. There will be special activities for children.

Rediscover the fun of riding a bike in a safe and friendly environment. For ride maps and more information visit the registration page here for the Calgary ‘Ride the Road tour’.
