Tour de Suisse 2005 – Stage 9 Final

June 19, 2005 – Aitor Gonzalez (Euskaltel) waited until the last moments of the final stage to deliver a sneaky, final-round knock-out blow to Michael Rogers (Quickstep) and win the Tour of Switzerland.

Rogers, who had been in yellow since the end of the 6th stage, wasn’t able to respond to a tremendous attack by Gonzalez in the final climb, and the Spaniard threw caution to the wind in the final descent and run to the finish to take the overall by 22 seconds.

Canadian Michael Barry (Discovery) finished 25th in the final stage, 7:27 behind Gonzalez, to complete the race in a very creditable 19th spot overall at 16:20.
