June 16, 2005 – Australian Michael Rogers (Quickstep) took advantage of a nine-man break to jump into the overall lead in the Tour of Switzerland, snatching the jersey from Jan Ullrich (T-Mobile) on the sixth stage won by U.S.A’s Chris Horner (Saunier Duval). The 159 km stage between Bürglen and Arosa had only two climbs, but they were meaty ones, including a first category climb just before the finish. Horner attacked at the base of the long, 27km climb and powered away for the win, which will go far in helping secure a spot in the Tour de France lineup for the American. Rogers attacked Ullrich’s group soon afterwards, and the German was hard-pressed to limit the damage. Finishing tenth, 1:48 behind Horner, Ullrich showed that his mountain form is not yet there: whether that is a good or a bad sign two weeks before the Tour de France remains to be seen”¦

Canadian Michael Barry (Discovery) put in a tremendous ride, finishing 26th only 2:40 down on Horner’s time, and now stands at 29th overall, 6:09 down.
