June 14, 2005 – Robbie McEwen (Davitamon) took the fourth stage of the Tour of Switzerland, 208km Vaduz to Bad Zurzach, in a sprint win, while yellow jersey Jan Ullrich (T-Mobile) stayed safely tucked in the pack.

The race was punctuated by a three-man break, which attacked at the 80km mark and managed to stay away until just under 5km from the end: Bart Dockx (Davitamon), Allan Johansen (CSC) and Lorenzo Bernucci (Fassa Bortolo).

The pack, mainly led by the Quickstep teammates of Tom Boonen, brought back the break, enabling a rested McEwen to slip into Boonen’s shadow. Quickstep’s lead-out for the Belgian star wasn’t enough, however, and the Aussie slipped around for the win.
