May 16, 2005 — It was another sprint victory for Oenone Wood (Nurnberger), who took the win in a crash-filled, short first portion of the day’s split stage, which saw all of Canada’s riders finish comfortably in the pack. The stage was marked with a single attack, by Chantal Beltman (Vrienden-Therm), who tried to go solo on a climb but was shut down by the pack.

In the day’s second stage portion, American Amber Neben counterattacked an earlier break by Olympic champ Sara Carrigan (Van Bemmelen) to score a tremdnous solo win and the race leader’s yellow jersey, outpacing Carrigan by 34 seconds and the rest of the pack by over a minute.

Canadian Lyne Bessette put in a strong performance, taking 11th on the stage, 1:10 down on the winning time, and moving in to 15th overall. Erinne Willock’s performance was also a highlight for the Canadians, as she took 14th on the stage, 1:15 down, and now stands in 17th overall.
