July 18, 2018 (Val-d’Or, Que.) – American Ryan Jastrab (Alterra Home Loans Cycling Team) celebrated his 18th birthday with a victory on Stage 2 from Val-d’Or-Senneterre to Val-d’Or, 137.2 km, to take over the leader’s brown jersey as well.

Jastrab won the final sprint over Sam Cook (Nzl) Desjardins Ford p/b Cromwell in second with Kyle Kirby (USA) Team California in third. The top Canadian Robin Plamondon in Team Canada colours finished 12th.

“I decided to go on the attack with about 10 km to go, along with two other riders, and we worked really well together,” said the winner. “With about 3 km to go, it had become obvious that we would keep going until the end. We completed the race a bit like a criterium, fighting for our positions.”

Canadian Riley Pickrell, winner of Stage 1, suffered an unfortunate rear wheel puncture with just over three kilometers to go and fell back to 70th overall.

Taisei Hino (Jpn) Team Japan is second overall and captured the Points Jersey as well. Kevin Cervantes (Mex) Alterra Home Loans Cycling Team leads the KOM Climber’s Classification while Antonin Corvaisier (Fra) Team France wears the Best Young Rider jersey.

July 19 features a double-stage for riders who will start with an 11.4 km individual time trial in Val-d’Or and then travel to Malartic for an early evening 52.8km road race.
