January 9, 2009 – A brand new UCI Americas Circuit race has quietly been in the works for B.C. The inaugural Tour de Kootenays will run July 4-5 this summer in the beautiful and rugged Kootenay region of Canada’s westernmost province, offering two challenging UCI one-day International Races with big UCI points up for grabs.
This event is organized by the Intermountain International Bicycle Racing Association in Nelson, B.C. Each race will award 125 UCI points (250 total UCI points).

TdK-1
— July 4, 2009 – Rossland, BC to Retallack (east of New Denver, BC)
– 178.8kms point to point
– 3 sprints, 4 climbs
– Total ascent: 5571m
– Total descent: 5054m
TdK-2
— July 5, 2009 – Krestova Circuit (near Crescent Valley, BC)
– 158.6/12.2km circuit
– featuring one 3km 6 degree climb and a quick but technical descent
– Total ascent/descent: 5382m
