Tim Hortons Road Nationals 2006 — Elite/U23 Men’s RR Flash

July 1, 2006 (Québec City. QC) — The Elite/U23 Men’s race is over the 1/2 way point as the riders are completing 14 laps of a 14 km circuit for a total of 196 kms. Here’s an update at Lap 9…

Lap 9
There is a breakaway of 9 riders including Dominique Rollin who rejoined the leaders after flatting. There is chase group of three riders with a 58 sec.gap between the break and the peloton. We understand that François Parisien, last year’s road champ who was in the break is now out of the race. Dominique Perras was leading the peloton for a while has joined the breakaway – among the riders in the break are Eric Wohlberg, Svein Tuft, Mark Walters, Ryan Roth and Cam Evans.

Lap 10
The gap between the break and the peloton is 1:07. In the break are Wohlberg, Tuft, Walters, Roth, Evans, Buck Miller, Perras, Rollin. The peloton is increasing its pace.

Lap 11
Czeslaw Lukaszewicz has attacked with four others including local favourite David Veilleux . Dom Perras is now back with the lead group after a short-lived escape. Miller and Walters have fallen back. The gap to the break is about 1 min. The Grand Allee is packed with spectators enjoying a beautiful but windy day in Quebec City.

Lap 12
Veilleux has attacked and joined the leaders – there are now two U23 riders in the break.

Lap 13
The break is falling apart with several chase groups – Tuft, Perras and Rollin have a slim lead.
