Three Quebec Cyclists Killed and Three Injured in Accident with Pickup Truck

May 14, 2010 (Rougemont, QC) – Three triathletes are dead and three others were injured following an incident this morning on Quebec Route 112 in Rougemont, east of Montreal. A pickup truck hit the group of six while they were riding east along Route 112 in the direction of Sherbrooke to take part in a triathlon training camp. Three women were killed while a man and two women sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but alcohol has apparently been ruled out.

The FQSC issued a press release entitled “A sombre day for the cycling community” expressing sadness over the tragedy. The FQSC also made mention that ironically the upcoming Tour of Silence honours cyclists killed in motor vehicle accidents. A worldwide event, that ride is scheduled to take place Wednesday, May 19 in Quebec at various locations beginning at 6:30 p.m.
