release by Cycling Canada

Global RelayJune 23, 2015 (Ottawa, ON) – Cycling Canada and the Corporation du Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce, the organizing committee of the 2015 Global Relay Canadian Road Cycling Championships, are proud to announce Thetford Mines as the host city for the Master and Junior categories of the event.

This will be the fourth consecutive year where the Global Relay Canadian Road Cycling Championships are hosted in the Chaudières-Appalaches region.

Taking place from July 2-5, the event in Thetford Mines will feature the gruelling time trials, the traditional road race and the fast-paced and exciting Criterium for the Master and Junior categories.

Several hundreds of road cyclists and their support teams are expected to converge to the region with the hopes of becoming the newest Canadian Champions.

At stake during any Canadian Championships is more than results, but the opportunity to win the honour of wearing the coveted Maple Leaf Jersey as the reigning Canadian Champion.

For the junior categories, the event is also an opportunity to qualify for the selection pool of the upcoming UCI Road World Championships, to be held in September.

The event is organized by La Corporation du Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce with Francis Rancourt at the helm. The committee is highly experienced in the delivery of road cycling events, having hosted amongst many other races the famous Tour de Beauce for the last 30 years, Canada’ longest-standing international stage race.

“Thetford Mines has been a very active and proud host city for these Championships. The economic impact to the region should be important as this is the top domestic race for road cycling event in Canada for these categories,” said Francis Rancourt. “The stakes are high and the intensity is always present at this prime event, for all races.”

The event is supported locally by an array of partners, including Cycling Canada, the Fédération Québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC), the Town of Thetford Mines, the Club cycliste de Thetford Mines, St-Georges Toyota, Le Georgeville, Alex Coulombe Ltée, and the Governments of Quebec and Canada.

“The City of Thetford Mines is pleased to partner with Cycling Canada, the Corporation of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce and Thetford Mines cycling club to host this important cycling event in its territory. The coming of the Championships is a great showcase for the city and a unique opportunity for the public to discover or rediscover cycling at its highest level. I invite Thetford citizens to attend in large numbers at this magnificent spectacle and encourage these talented cyclists. The invitation is sent,” said the mayor of Thetford Mines, Marc-Alexandre Brousseau.
