SRAM Red 2012 Launching Soon

by Scott Kelly

December 20, 2011 – Information continues to come out about SRAM’s latest generation of it’s flagship Red road component group. SRAM photos have been leaked along with other pieces of the puzzle in a build up to the group’s February 2012 launch date. The new shift levers will utilize SRAM’s ErgoDynamic designed to yield best in class control and comfort.

Most exciting (in our opinion) is the new Red front derailleur which is designed with YAW technology, which is said eliminate trim. The Red front derailleur was one key part of the previous Red gruppo that was dialed for improvement and it seems some engineering effort has been spent here. The new cassette looks to be inspired by the XX MTB cassette construction and will receive StealthRing elastomers that help reduce drivetrain noise.

The crankset will go on a diet courtesy of hollow carbon construction technology which SRAM calls Featherweight Exogram. Lastly, SRAM Red brakes will utilize what they call the ‘Aerolink arm’, which is expected to increase the mechanical leverage to provide improved modulation and higher power.
