July 31, 2017 (Caledon, ON) – The Ontario Cup Series made a mid-summer stop-over at Albion Hills Conservation Area this past Saturday. As rare as the Saturday start is the long-course format enjoyed by all but the youth riders. The 24km of super-fast, hilly terrain saw great average speeds on a day perfect for racing!

The big races of the day were made more exciting as some of the countries’ best decided to come out and race the unique, long format. Our newly crowned National Champion, Peter Disera of Norco Factory team took third place, giving up the #2 spot to his younger brother and teammate.

Quinton Disera hung with two-time National Champ Derek Zandstra of 3Rox/Cannondale until near the end, but the wily veteran Zandstra found his legs and took the win.

A lean women’s Elite field saw just enough riders to fill the podium, with Erica Leonard of Centurion/Next Wave taking the win. Second went to Bateman Bicycle Company’s Andrea Burley, while third place went to a relative unknown in the area, Jenny Leblanc from Trenton.

Capping off the day was a great BBQ, free for competitors courtesy Superfly Racing and Plastiglas. The final stop on the Ontario Cup series is just one month away, and the Provincial Championships at Sir Sam’s Ski and Ride is perhaps the best venue in the series. Be sure to make Provincials in Haliburton part of your schedule on the weekend of August 26/27!
