SATURN’S ANNA MILLWARD OUTSPRINTS POLIKEVICIUTE

June 16, 2002 (STANLEY, ID) – Olympian, Anna Millward (Austrialia) of Team
SATURN won her first sprint victory of the year in today’s
second of nine stages of the HP Women’s Challenge, a 56.6 mile road race,
including a 15 mile climb, from Lowman to Stanley, Idaho in a time of 2
hours, 35 minutes and 29 seconds.


Placing second for the second year
in a row was current World Road Champion, Rasa Polikeviciute of the
LITHUANIAN NATIONAL Team, followed by the 1994 Women’s Tour de France
winner, Valentina Polkhanova from Russia, riding for the ITERA Team.


Finishing fourth, with the same time, was the top American, Kristin
Armstrong, a former World Class Triathathlete from Boise, Idaho riding for
Team GOLDY. When asked about her finish, Armstrong replied, “I’m ecstatic.
I couldn’t believe I was there (in the winning break)…..I felt so honored
to be in the winning break with the top women in the world.”


Millward’s victory and time bonuses earned along the way of today’s
stage put her in the Blue Race Leader Jersey.  Second overall with the
same time, is Polikeviciute followed by Polkhanova, 6 seconds back. Stage
3, June 17, will be a 25 mile Individual Time Trial starting at 10 o’clock
am in Stanley, Idaho.
